The operational area of MMBA has continuously been exposed to prolonged drought and famine conditions, which aggravate water shortage. Despite scanty rain and dry climatic conditions, majority of people in rural areas depend on agriculture and animal husbandry. The children help them in farming and cattle rearing and this worsens their educational development.

Social evils and cultural practices prevalent in the society have degraded the status of women. Forced marriages, female infanticide, child marriage, domestic violence and atrocities against women are part of the society. Veil system has restricted them to the four walls of the homes. Women have a low profile in the society and are systematically denied education, health and freedom of economy and decision making.

With widespread illiteracy, high levels of chronic indebtedness, and a degree of economic insecurity people are forced to migrate to other states for employment. They leave behind old and infirm males, women and children behind them. As a result, family fabric is torn and overall development of families, particularly those of women and children suffers.

For over 25 years, MMBA is systematically addressing these problems of rural people through a number of strategic programmes. Please click the links of the left to navigate through the organisation's programmes.
